Referendum Information

Referendums give Acadia students the opportunity to vote directly on important issues that may impact student life, services, or how the ASU operates. Your participation helps guide future decisions and ensures student perspectives are reflected in the direction of the Union.

As part of the 2026 Winter ASU General Elections, the Acadia Students’ Union will include three referendum questions on the ballot.

Before voting, we encourage you to review each question carefully and learn what a Yes or No vote means. More details about each referendum question are provided below.

The Acadia Students’ Union is proposing an adjustment to the way part-time student fees are calculated so that they are charged proportionally to what a full-time student pays. This change would create a fairer and more consistent fee structure by ensuring that all students contribute equitably based on their course load. Aligning part-time fees with full-time fees on a proportional basis helps maintain the quality of services, programs and support offered by the Students’ Union. This prevents full-time students from carrying a disproportionate share of costs. The increase would provide a more sustainable funding model and ensure that part-time students continue to benefit from the same resources and opportunities as full-time students.

The ASU is proposing a new fee structure based on the number of credit hours taken each semester. Proposed Fees  (based on the current annual ASU fee of $226):

   Fall Semester

  • 3 Credit Hours: $22.60

  • 6 Credit Hours: $45.50

  • 9 Credit Hours or More: $113.00

   Winter Semester

  • 3 Credit Hours: $22.60

  • 6 Credit Hours: $45.20

  • 9 Credit Hours or More: $113.00

The Acadia Students’ Union (ASU) is proposing to extend eligibility for the ASU Health and Dental Plan to include part-time students, in response to numerous requests from part-time students seeking access to the plan. Currently, the plan is only available to students registered on a full-time basis.

If approved, this change would mean that all part-time students studying at Acadia University would be automatically enrolled in the ASU Health and Dental Plan. Part-time students would continue to have the option to opt out of the plan by providing proof of comparable alternative coverage.

Do you support the Acadia Students’ Union enrolling part-time students in the ASU Health and Dental Plan, with the ability to opt out if they have alternate coverage?
