Clubs at Acadia

Are student-led groups based on shared interests — social, sport, cultural, faith-based, or advocacy. A great way to meet people, run events, and build your community on campus.

Benefits for ASU-Registered Clubs

Registering with the ASU gives your club access to exclusive perks, including the ability to use “Acadia” in your name, a free mailbox in the SUB, and free SUB room bookings (plus discounted campus spaces).

Promote and grow your club by joining Club Extravaganza, hosting club nights at The Axe Bar, accessing Student Activity Fund support, catering discounts, marketing opportunities, and ASU liability insurance coverage for your events.

Societies at Acadia

Societies are elected student groups that represent specific academic programs. They connect students within the same field, organize events, and support academic engagement and community in your discipline. Examples: Biology, Philosophy, Music.

Associations

Elected student bodies representing larger groups like faculties or residence students. They advocate for students, offer services, and help shape campus life. Examples: Faculty Associations, Residence Hall Association.

Benefits for ASU-Recognized Associations

ASU-recognized Associations receive key supports to help them represent and serve students, including the ability to use “Acadia” in their name, a dedicated student levy, a free SUB mailbox, and free SUB room bookings (plus discounted campus spaces).

Associations can promote and grow their community through Club Extravaganza, host events at The Axe Bar, access the Student Activity Fund (eligibility applies), receive catering discounts, and have events covered under the ASU’s liability insurance

Funding:
Student Activities Fund (SAF)

The Student Activity Fund is a collaborative initiative between the Acadia Students’ Union (ASU) and Acadia University, designed to encourage student engagement through hosting and participating in events both on and off campus. This fund primarily supports activities related to student travel, networking opportunities, club events, and a variety of other student-centered programs. By providing financial assistance, the fund aims to foster an enriched student experience and promote community building, leadership development, and networking among students.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be current students of Acadia University

The club must be officially ratified

Applicants must show evidence of fundraising efforts (Bake sale, Raffles, Axe Night, etc.)

The event must benefit the Acadia Community

Applications must include a detailed budget

Expenses of Eligibility Expenses:

Conference travel

Building/facility rentals

Event decorations

Banquet fees

Guest speaker

Funding: Wellness Fund

The Wellness Fund is dedicated to promoting health and well-being among students on campus. This fund offers financial support for student-led programming that enhances wellness within the Acadia community. Applications are evaluated based on how effectively they support and improve the overall well-being of a group of Acadia students, with a strong emphasis on mental, physical, and emotional wellness. The fund helps foster a healthier campus environment by empowering students to implement initiatives that positively impact the broader student body.

Eligibility Criteria:

Similar application responsibilities as the Student Activities Fund (SAF).

The event must benefit multiple students’ wellness

Designed to support events or initiatives promoting wellness

Examples of previous successful applications include:

Food sharing

Snacks in the Michener Lounge during 24 hour study period.

What is wellness?

Wellness includes several interconnected dimensions, each contributing to an individual’s overall well‑being.

External groups are welcome to book a space in The SUB for a Fee

When students book a SUB space, you also get promotion support:

📺 Your poster displayed on SUB digital screens (no time limit — we’ll keep it up leading to your event)

📱 Tag @acadiastudents on Instagram or Facebook and we’ll share your post in our Stories

⭐ External Bookings Perks

External groups are welcome to book SUB spaces (rental fees vary by location). With your booking, you’ll receive: 📺 Poster displayed on the main-level screen near Union Market (up to 10 days before your event); 📱 Story share available when you tag @acadiastudents
