Fair Trade Campus

Acadia University became the first  Fair Trade Campus in the Maritimes in 2017 with the support of the Acadia Students’ Union. As a Fair Trade Campus, all of the coffee, and many teas and chocolate products must be ethically and sustainably sourced. This joint initiative between Acadia and the ASU means that farmers and producers receive a minimum price, improved terms, and a social premium that helps them improve their lives and prepare for the future.

Former ASU President Grace Hamilton-Burge led the ASU effort and a resolution was passed in 2017 in support of the program. The ASU Sustainability Officer serves on the Acadia Fair Trade Campus Committee.

This Keep an eye out for Fair Trade Campus events, and Acadia’s very-own Fair Trade In-House Coffee: Just Us! Hacha Java, served in Wheelock Dining Hall, and available for sale in the Union Market.
