Initiatives on Campus
ASU Divestment Initiative
In March 2020, the Student Representative Council passed a motion to divest (meaning our remove all financial investments) from the “Oil & Gas” and “Mining & Metals” sectors, as they are known to cause direct harm to the environment

Fair Trade Campus
Acadia University became the first Fair Trade Campus in the Maritimes in 2017 with the support of the Acadia Students’ Union.

Goals Accord (SDG Accord)
The SDG Accord is a statement of support for the UNSDGs by higher education institutions around the world.


The ASU established the elected position of Sustainability Officer in 2015 at the request of students. The position was created to serve as a voice for sustainability on the SRC, to engage students about important sustainability matters, and to advance sustainability initiatives in the ASU.
ASU Sustainability Representative

Food security is a sustainability issue and sustainable development goal. The ASU signed the SDG Accord in 2019. Global Goal #2.1 is this:
By 2030, end hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations (like students) , including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round.
